Thanks Giving

There is a sobering verse found in Romans chapter one. The context of verses eighteen through twenty-five is the wrath of God. His wrath is kindled against wicked, godless men, that is verse eight. Then we have an expanded view of who these godless wicked individuals are. For although they know God, they neither glorified Him as God nor gave thanks to Him. Godless, wicked individuals are defined as those who know God but (1) they do not give Him the glory, and (2) they do not give thanks.

Thanksgiving is burned deep in Scripture. Bible greats are those found praising and thanking God; Noah, Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Joseph, Moses, David, Solomon, the prophets, and the apostles. God-pleasers have always been thanks giving people. We have so much to be thankful for and every good, every perfect gift is from His hand.

Life is from God. To the Athenians on Mars Hill Paul declared, God made the world and everything in it... In Him we live, move and have our being. There are no physical blessings we can name that God is not directly responsible for. Thank you Lord for life, strength, and health. Thank you for the sunshine, the rain, the seasons, the air we breath, our food, clothing and homes, all that make this life so good.

Family is from God. What God has joined together, let not man put asunder. I don’t know what it would be like without family, Georgia, mom, dad, the children, grandchildren, in-laws, aunts and uncles. Family has always been there for me. What a blessing to gather around the dinner table with those God has given us. Thank you Lord, for the love that flows, the tie that binds us in family, and may we always hold special, and never interrupt those you have bound together as our family.

Country is from God. Jesus told Pilate that he had no power except that which came from above. Paul writes, There is no authority except from God, and those which exist are established by God. The rise and fall of nations is in His hands. What a blessing we have!! We are citizens of the greatest country ever to exist on this planet. We have more freedom, liberty, privileges, wealth and blessings than any other nation in history. And we must never lose sight of who made it possible... Thank you Lord for country.

Salvation is from God. Praise God, who has blessed us with all spiritual blessings in Christ. Peter declared. There is salvation in no other name except Jesus. Jesus is God’s Son given to save us.
        • He is Messiah.
        • It is His kingdom in which we live and serve.
        • He is our own Kinsman Redeemer.
        • We have been purchased with a price, His blood.
        • He is our Savior.
We are saved by grace through faith, a gift of God.

Those who do not praise Him, thank Him, are ungodly and idolatrous. As this Thanksgiving holiday approaches, may we not be found in this hideous group. Let us;
        • Acknowledge Him as God,
        • Praise His glorious name,
        • And thank Him from the depths of our heart.

Thank you, Lord, for loving me;

Thank you Lord, for blessing me,

Thank you Lord, for making me whole

And saving my soul.
