I Sought For A Man

Everything had gone wrong in the city. Blood stained the streets. Fathers and mothers were being treated with contempt. Orphans and widows were being wronged. Cheating foreigners had become a way of life. Holy things were despised, and the day set aside for worship had become just like any other day. Lying and lewdness were prevalent. Money was being accepted to commit murder. Bribes were commonplace, and men were having sex with their father’s wife, or their own daughter-in-law. Some were getting rich dishonestly. Preachers had stopped teaching the difference between what was holy and profane — what was clean and unclean. God was angry!

The city was Jerusalem, but it could be Any City, U.S.A.

God said, And I sought for a man among them who should build up the wall and stand in the breach before me for the land, that I should not destroy it, but I found none. Ezekiel 22.30.

God was looking for a man, not machinery! Not a majority, but a man! When God wants to get a thing done, he seeks out a man. One man and God always make a majority! God’s method is men. If God can find a man who is available, willing, committed, there is no limit to what He can do through him!

In the long ago God was seeking for a man. Seeking... Seeking... Seeking... But I found none.

Do you suppose God is still searching in our day? And if He is, will anyone answer?

I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.
