The Book

Gaye and I were just talking today about Bible study. She mentioned that it is amazing how each time we read through our Bibles we see things that we didn't see before. We also talked about how sad it would be for those who do not study their Bibles.
        • How do they make it through the day?
        • How do they face life's trials and heartaches?
        • How do they overcome the temptations that so often wage war against our souls? Probably, they don't.

I don't think that any of us can say that we really appreciate the fact that God has made His word available to us in written form. What I mean is — none of us take full advantage of it.

Are you satisfied with the amount of time you spend studying your Bible? Are you satisfied with your frame of mind when you do study? I, for one, am not and I don't think I should ever be.

Let me share some scriptures with you in hopes that it will help us to realize what we hold when we hold our Bibles in our hands.

John 8.32 & 33, If you abide in my word, then you are truly disciples of Mine; and you shall know the truth and the truth shall make you free.
II Timothy 3.14 &15, From childhood you have known the sacred writings which are able to give you the wisdom that leads to salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.
John 6.67 & 68, Jesus said therefore to the twelve, 'You do not want to go away also, do you?' Simon Peter answered Him, 'Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life.'

Look at that! That is a lot more than you will find on your television set or in a John Grisham novel. The secrets to salvation from sin and to eternal life, all found in this amazing book we call the Bible.

Listen to this statement by Peter. It is one of the most profound statements concerning the word of God ever made. It was revealed to them that they were not serving themselves but you in these things which now have been announced to you through those who preached the gospel to you by the Holy Spirit sent from heaven, things into which angels long to look. I Peter 1.12

Jesus said in Luke 12.48 From everyone who has been given much, much will be required.

Some peoples don't even have the Bible in their own language. How many copies of the Bible do you have access to?

We have been given so much.

How can we go even one day without feeding from the words that our Lord has so graciously chosen to reveal to us? — Things into which angels long to look!
