His Ways

God moves in mysterious ways His wonders to perform. God works in the Christian and through the Christian. Churchill once spoke of a
great design being worked out here below of which we have the honor to be the faithful servants. To be sure, God gets His will done through His servants who are consciously dedicated to it. But He also achieves His purpose through those not His servants.
It is said that on a fence surrounding his home, Thomas Edison had a heavy, clumsy gate. People wondered why a man of his standing would put up with such an ugly gate. A friend suggested casually to Edison one day that he get something newer and easier to open and shut.
Mr. Edison seemed to be delighted that his friend mentioned the gate.
Come, he said,
let me show you something. He showed him a pumping contraption geared-in with the big gate and said,
You see, every man who comes to see me and opens or shuts the gate automatically pumps a gallon of water into a tank on my roof.
God is in control. His sovereignty is universal. Many instruments are unwittingly serving His purpose, even people. Assyria and wicked Babylon served His purpose unknowingly in the Old Testament. Just think of the people who pass every day through His gate and without intending it — often without knowing it — make some contribution to His purpose. Only God knows the complete master plan! He's in control!
