When Life Is Not Fair

Often people are disappointed because of unjust acts or unfair conditions. Since these things come into every life, even though we don’t like it, we must learn to live with it.
If we demand fairness in every situation and fight for justice in every condition, we will, most likely, live a very violent life. Jesus said, Turn the other cheek. He practiced what He taught. On the cross He prayed, Father, forgive. When he could have called down legions of angels to protect Him, He did not. The injustice and cruelty He suffered were inhuman. He died. The apostles said it is better to suffer wrong than to do wrong.
This is not fatalism or pessimism, but a commitment to live the good life. We change the things within our power and accept those beyond our power. How, you ask, can we accept the unfair? Because we know that finally God will correct all inequities and right all wrongs.
Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather give place
unto wrath: for it is written, ‘Vengeance is mine, I will repay,
saith the Lord’
. Romans 12.19-20.
For we know Him that has said, ‘Vengeance belongs unto me,
I will recompense, says the Lord.’ And again, the Lord shall
judge his People’
. Hebrews 10.30.
If we carry all the garbage of evils and injustices that have been committed against us, we are doomed to violent or terribly disappointing feelings. God’s way is to bring it to Him. Turn it over to Him, and go about our business. The relief and release of the lifted weight is truly marvelous. God’s way is far, far better than the way of the flesh.
