Grace Upon Grace

And from his fulness have we all received,

grace upon grace.

Isn’t it wonderful to be a Christian! Just to know that you are a child of God should brighten every day. I think back several years when my granddaughter Kate was small. Every morning when she woke up, she would say, Isn’t it a beautiful day today! On one such occasion her mother replied, Kate, it’s raining outside.

Yes, she replied, Isn’t it beautiful!

Jesus came to give life - an abundant life. And from His fulness have we all received. Not only can we exult in the joys of life, but we can even know peace in the midst of a storm. And that makes every day beautiful.

I rejoice in that phrase, grace upon grace. Grace was given when I became a Christian. I didn’t deserve it, and I couldn’t earn it. As one has said, Grace means that God in Christ has done for you what neither you, nor anyone else, nor anything else could do for you. But grace didn’t stop with my redemption from sin. It’s grace upon grace every day of my life.

I think back to the time when God provided a fresh supply of manna in the wilderness every morning. That wonderful grace continued day after day, and so it is with us.

There will always be new tasks, new problems, new temptations, and new sorrows, but God’s grace is sufficient for our every need.
