Building Character With God

How old are you? Whatever the number multiply it by 365 and you will have the number of days you have been alive. OK now, if you have been alive for that number of days, that means that you have also enjoyed an equal number of nights.

So, after you lose consciousness every night who is watching over you? Not you, that’s for sure! You’re out.

Ever been accosted in your sleep? What’s the worst thing that’s ever happened to you in your sleep? Nothing? Looks like God does a pretty good job of looking after you when you’re unconscious.

So, what’s happening with your days? Got problems? Fear? Worry? Self-will running riot?

Here’s a question for you. What’s the difference between you and God? Answer: He never thinks He’s you!

In First Samuel fifteen, King Saul appeared to depend primarily on the support and approval of the people rather than God for his sense of self confidence. This ultimately led to his downfall. Saul’s pattern of paying more attention to the voices of others, rather than to the voice of God, eventually prompted God to withdraw His support of Saul’s kingship. From that point on, Saul descended into deep depression, punctuated by violent outbursts at those who threatened his fragile self-esteem.

Our reputation with people will take care of itself if only we would spend all our time building character with God.
