While We Were Still Sinners

It never ceases to amaze me how much God truly loves His creation. From the very beginning, He gave the best. Adam and Eve had Eden. God promised to bless those who followed Him. Even when His people turned their backs on Him, God was always willing to take them back. When the Israelites were at the end of their rope, so to speak, God was there. Just when we need Him, God is there.

God’s plan for saving mankind is a wonderful example of this.

In Romans 5:6-11, Paul speaks of this. He points out that Jesus came at just the right time. We were powerless he says, God’s love was demonstrated to us in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. Remember that Jesus said that it was not those who are well who need a physician, but those who are sick. Think about that phrase, While We Were Yet Sinners. That means: We are not perfect and God knows it. We need to know we are not perfect. We need to realize the source of our help. We need to take advantage of what God has provided. We need to allow God to work on our imperfections. We need to work on not being sinners.

God does not excuse sin but knows that we are sinners and need help. He has not said He expects us to become perfect before He will help us, but rather sent Jesus to reconcile us to Him. Upon that basis we have the means to be healed. You see, God knows us in all our weaknesses and loves us anyway. But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
